The tricky thing with sound, is we are dealing with an invisible thing, that most people don't really understand.
In the first instance, you can make it easier for yourself, if you consider how easy it will be for people to hear, while you're choosing your venue.
For example, pictured above we were providing microphone and speaker hire at Places For People. Long, narrow venues provide serious challenges to getting heard at the back.
Other features of rooms which make natural sound difficult to hear, are walls of glass, and uncarpeted floors.
If you've got fewer than 25 people at your meeting, in a small room, maybe you don't need the assistance of microphones and speakers.

MICROPHONE HIRE FOR MEETINGS
Considerations to help you choose the right microphone for a business meeting. The options are:
Wireless Headset Mic Hire
Wireless Lapel (aka Lav or Lavieler or tie mic)
Reasonably discrete.
Totally handsfree.
Generally sound much clearer than lapel mics. This mic is much closer to the mouth.
Not as fast to fit as headsets.
Not as fast to fit as lapel mics.
Super discrete

Can work for reasonably loud, gesticular expressive presenters
Faster to fit than headsets
Can be difficult to get softer speakers loud enough, as this mic is further away from the mouth
LECTERN MIC HIRE
The lectern mic is excellent return of investment in your event planning. Firstly it generally looks the part. Secondly, it's the most reliable microphone possible for meetings and events.
Because it's on a cable and it doesn't move, it's quickest to set up, and it just bloody works!
Especially if you value the idea of having a lectern look, perfect key note presentations, then hiring a lectern mic make tonnes of sense.
And of all the microphone types we hire for meetings, if you did decide you're comfortable to "self operate", (that is to dry hire from us), then a lectern mic is the easiest to control.

WIRELESS HANDHELD MIC
The most popular chosen microphone for spoken word events.
It's relatively easy to use, (at least, they're less faff than lapel or headset mics usually).
Of course it's disadvantage, when compared to tie or headset mics is...
..it's not handsfree. (That is unless we put it on a stand...but then it's not mobile. In that case, you'd have been as well of hiring a lectern mic see above).

In a room of say 120, the people at the front are going to hear some of the natural “acoustic” voice of the presenter and the panel. Whereas at the back...without the right PA system, it’s either going to be soft distant voices, or a mush of reverb.
Ever thought it’s strange then, that most AV people default to putting 2 x speakers at the front? And then, they go sit down at the back and attempt to adjust the sound.
Well, that's often simply not good enough! Because it’s the guests at the back who would benefit most from a volume boost. So as AV people, we should be working extra hard for those guests at the back!
In the 4 examples pictured above, we put speakers around the audience to reduce listening fatigue. And to increase engagement. It worked well for those clients | venues listed. And it can work for your attendees too.
SOUND HIRE FOR SEMINARS
When providing the sound system for one of our clients, (Joseph Holt) at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Club, the set up was complimented for the clarity. And the remarkable fact that, despite the microphone being in front of the speakers, it didn't squeal! (i.e. it didn't feedback).
Mind you, this was one of our premium flown, (as in positioned high up), flagship sound systems. So you'd expect a very pleasant listening experience!
For audiences 400 people and upwards, in large spaces, (keep in mind, that this room is 80m long), this speaker set up is a cost effective, professional solution. Making sure everyone has a fair chance at hearing the words easily.
