Allen & Heath SQ6

The Allen & Heath SQ6 is prolific. With hundreds of thousands of units sold in clubs, music venues, rental houses and on tour around and the world, Allen & Heath brought something to market at this price point, which arguable still no other manufacturer has.

To put this in context, the SQ6 (and its family SQ5 and SQ7), were major steps up from their previous console series at this price point, the QU, in terms of how freely you could now build a mix.

Among other significant advances, because of the SQ’s interface flexibility, you could now label and colour every channel, move the channel order to suit and customise any “layer” of faders.

If you’re relatively new to sound desk hire, and need more channels or a bigger mixer for your church or band, then we’re confident you’ll love this.

If you’re an experienced engineer, then you’ll know that the number inputs this mixer has, and the options for processing, pretty much makes it as comprehensive as it gets for digital mixers at this price point. And its’s a mixing console which has so much familiarity in the Sound engineering community.

The spec in a nutshell:

-40 simultaneous processing channels

- FGPA circuits (which basically means that the manufacturer can release firmware that can considerably reprogram parts of the desk…meaning that this desk is constantly being improved. We’ve seen numbers of significantly helpful updates since we first had one in 2018…like automated mic mixing AAM.

- 12 mix buses selectable between group or auxiliaries.

- Graphic EQ on all output buses.

- (Subject to a suitable router), a super stable SQ mix app.
